We have fun, but we take our work seriously and strive to create the best possible learning environment for our students.

We believe we deliver Gahanna’s best preschool experience, not just because we offer a childcare program but also because our students have so much fun along the way. And the Children’s Hunger Alliance agrees! The organization voted us Childcare Center of the Year in 2021.

What Does the Best Gahanna Preschool Look Like?

We are so glad you asked! Our weekly curriculum includes:

  • Reading: We believe the best preschool programs should include a vibrant language development program. That’s why we start literacy training with preschool age children using reading games and story time to spark an early love for reading.
  • Circle Time: A group learning session where children are encouraged to play together, share thoughts & feelings, and reflect on the thoughts and feelings of their peers. Circle time is vitally important to developing social skills in young children.
  • Creative Art Expression: Through music discovery activities and art projects, your preschool child will improve spacial memory as well as memory retention.
  • Physical Development: Structured physical activity helps preschoolers grow strong, improves coordination, and builds confidence.
  • Social/Emotional Development: Preschool provides immense social benefits for your child. At our Gahanna preschool, your child will build confidence in social settings and learn interpersonal skills that will benefit them for years to come.
  • Science and Mathematics: We instill a love of the natural world with fun science programs and math activities. Our curriculum helps build a foundation for future learning in your preschool child.

All these programs, activities, and more help your preschool child build confidence, grow social skills, and get ready for kindergarten and beyond.

Frequently asked questions

What is the daily schedule at Treehouse Learning Center?

The day begins in the morning with handwashing, followed by free time until about 8 AM. From 8 to 9, the students have breakfast provided by the school. Around 9:00, there is a designated bathroom break.

Between 9 and 11, they engage in various activities such as circle time, projects, Spanish review, and arts and crafts. Around 11:00 to 11:30, there is another bathroom break followed by playtime.

At 12:00, the students have lunch together in a family-style dining setting. Teachers and students eat alongside the kids and discuss the events of the day. Each child has a specific responsibility at the table.

After lunch, at 12:30, it’s naptime on cots. The children listen to soft classical music, an audio story, or the teacher reads to them for about 90 minutes. They wake up between 2:00 to 2:30 and help clean up their sleeping area. Then, they wash their hands before snack time.

At 2:30, a light snack is served, typically consisting of a fruit, a starch, and water or milk. Fruits such as bananas, strawberries, frozen grapes, pears, and peaches are offered. Starches can include pretzels, bran crackers, or wheat thins.

At 3:00, there is an arts and crafts session and a review of the activities the kids have participated in throughout the day. Afterward, they have more free time, which may include outdoor play if the weather permits. Occasionally, they have movie days on Thursdays.

Pick-up time ranges from 4:30 to 6:00.

How do you handle discipline and behavior management?

Initially, our priority is to create a calming environment for the child by removing them from the situation. We engage in dialogue with the child to effectively communicate and understand the circumstances surrounding their behavior.

In order to foster conflict resolution skills, we actively collaborate with the child to find mutually agreeable solutions. For recurring behavioral issues, a temporary time out may be implemented. It is important to note that the duration of the time out is never longer than the child’s age, as we strive to maintain a fair and developmentally appropriate disciplinary approach.

To ensure transparency and keep parents informed, all interactions pertaining to disciplinary incidents are meticulously documented in an incident report.

What is the student to teacher ratio?

The preschool classroom has a 12 to 1 student-to-teacher ratio. Each classroom is staffed with one lead teacher and an assistant teacher.

How do you handle the transition from home to preschool, especially for first-time preschoolers?

Full potty training is required for preschool enrollment. We coordinate with parents, toddler and preschool teachers, and administration for a week of half-day sessions. If the child adapts well, they can transition to full days immediately after.

What is the procedure for communicating with parents about their child's progress and development?

Treehouse Learning utilizes an app called Parent Engagement to establish consistent and effective communication channels between teachers, admins, and parents/guardians. This app serves as a platform for sharing day-to-day updates, progress reports, and facilitating information requests, among other important communication functions.
